DIVERGENT opens at No.1!

SINGAPORE - DIVERGENT commands the top of the box office with a mighty US$962,731 from 58 screens, including IMAX.

Other debuts include Wes Anderson's THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL which kicks off with a healthy US$120,970 from 10 screens (including sneaks), while Hayao Miyazaki's THE WIND RISES collects US$111,183 from 13 screens.

Malaysian road movie THE JOURNEY 一路有你 starts with US$64,104 from 8 screens (5 Cathay and 3 Shaw), which includes 2 weeks of sneak previews. THE JOURNEY has reportedly grossed RM$17.16m (est. US$5.25m) and counting to become the top domestic film in Malaysia of all time.

NEED FOR SPEED parked at #1!

SINGAPORE - NEED FOR SPEED, an action flick based on the popular video games finds itself parked at no. 1 with US$5678,040 from 45 screens, including 3D and the all-new D-BOX (both 2D and 3D) format in Singapore.

Last weekend's top movie 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE breaks pass the US$2m mark to become the 3rd highest grossing film of the year to date with US$2,137,206 and counting. The Liam Neeson airplane thriller NON-STOP grossed another US$299,716 for a US$2,130,512 total which places is at no. 4 on the year's top grossing list.

300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE conquers #1 Spot

SINGAPORE - 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE easily steals the top spot as it rakes in US$1,351,793 from 69 screens (including 3D and IMAX 3D) for the year's second highest debut behind ROBOCOP.

Other debuts include the Kevin Costner headlined action-thriller 3 DAYS TO KILL (US$119,950); Japanese anime LUPIN III VS DETECTIVE CONAN: THE MOVIE (US$19,006), high school comedy GAY DUDE: DATE AND SWITCH (US$13,348) and LE WEEK-END starring Jim Broadbent (figures unavailable).

Biographical drama KILL YOUR DARLINGS and FILTH based on Irvine Welsh's novel open on single screens and pick up US$1,978 and US$1,934 respectively. THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN starring Shia LaBeouf scores the lowest screen average debut of the year with just US$750 for a total of US$5,253 from 7 screens.

NON-STOP flies into no. 1 spot!

SINGAPORE - Liam Neeson continues to prove his box office worth as he displaces himself as no. 1 with the new action flick NON-STOP, which pulls in US$952,515 from 48 screens for an astounding US$19,844 screen average. It's the second biggest debut this year behind ROBOCOP, which kicked off with US$1,428,935.

Neeson is also part of the voice talents from THE LEGO MOVIE, which drops to no. 2 after 3 weeks at the top. THE LEGO MOVIE has grossed US$2,108,710 to date, and is this year's 2nd biggest film behind ROBOCOP, which has grossed US$3,025,097 so far.
