HITMAN: AGENT 47 comes to town

20 Aug 2015

Singapore - HITMAN: AGENT 47 (NC16), which was partially shot in the garden city will be the widest release this weekend, and a likely candidate for the top spot as there's hardly any strong competitors, holdovers or otherwise.

Last week's reigning champ, PIXELS is likely to slip into the runner-up spot.

After a few limited full house sessions at the Capitol Theater and the National Museum, the omnibus feature 7 LETTERS (PG) gets a theatrical release and is already performing strongly despite opening only on 9 screens. Advance sales have been nothing short of amazing.

Other debuts include horror sequel SINISTER 2 (NC16), Ringo Lam's thriller WILD CITY 迷城 (NC16), revenge thriller RETURN TO SENDER (M18) and Japanese anime ANATA WO ZUTTO AISHITERU (PG).

Will PIXELS eat its way to no. 1?

13 Aug 2015

Singapore - PIXELS (PG) will be the widest new release this weekend with premium formats that include IMAX 3D, 3D and D-Box. Look for it to debut at no. 1 despite negative reviews and challenges from holdovers MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - ROUGUE NATION and FANTASTIC FOUR.

Also new will be ATTACK ON TITAN - PART 1, the first ever movie to be released with dual ratings. The uncut M18 version, which is apparently about a minute longer, will screen alongside the edited NC16 version. The Japanese fantasy action flick will also be the first Asian film to be screened in the D-Box format at GV Bishan.

Other new releases include John Woo's conclusion to his epic period romance THE CROSSING II 太平轮:惊涛挚爱 (PG13), Hong Kong romance PARIS HOLIDAY 巴黎假期 (PG) and sci-fi horror HARBINGER DOWN (NC16).

ROGUE NATION keeps FANTASTIC FOUR from no. 1!

10 Aug 2015

Singapore - MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - ROGUE NATION claims the no. 1 spot for a second weekend in a row, keeping FANTASTIC FOUR (PG) from scoring a home run during the National Day weekend.

The rebooted FANTASTIC FOUR is reported to have grossed US$1.36m from 62 screens from Thursday to Sunday. That's within range of last August's top debuts - TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES with US$1,449,438 from 77 screens (including sneaks), and the Scarlett Johansson sci-fi thriller LUCY with US$1,455,514 from 66 screens.

Due to a stronger American currency, FANTASTIC FOUR (S$1,882,893) actually performed marginally better than both those films despite playing on slightly less screens (S$1,814,247 for TURTLES and S$1,817,733 for LUCY).
