THE GOOD DINOSAUR rules no. 1

Singapore - THE GOOD DINOSAUR (PG) opens at no. 1 with US$767,740 from 69 screens including 3D in a competitive marketplace.

Hong Kong horror thriller KEEPER OF DARKNESS 痞子驱魔人 (NC16) grossed $121,765 from 12 screens for an average of US$10,147 - an encouraging figure for an Asian title.

Other debuts include monster pic VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN (PG13) (US$172,088 / 31 screens), boxing drama CREED (PG13) (US$93,543 / 11 screens), the latest screen version of MACBETH (NC16) (US$19,158 / 3 screens), teen music drama JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS (PG) (US$9,311 / 8 screens) and the Korean-Chinese action comedy BAD GUYS ALWAYS DIE 坏蛋必须死 (PG13) (1 screen / figures not available).

New entrants aim to fight Katniss for No. 1

Singapore - It's going to be a crowded weekend as a bunch of new releases try to dethrone the final Katniss pic.

Pixar's latest, THE GOOD DINOSAUR (PG) (also available in 3D) opens alongside monster pic VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN (PG13), boxing drama CREED (PG13), teen music drama JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS (PG), horror thriller KEEPER OF DARKNESS 痞子驱魔人 (NC16), the latest screen version of
MACBETH (NC16) and the Korean-Chinese action comedy BAD GUYS ALWAYS DIE 坏蛋必须死 (PG13).

HUNGER GAMES finale opens with US$1.4m

Singapore - THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2 (PG13) opens this week at number one with US$1,408,369 from 105 screens for a US$13,413 average. That's 16.67% lower than what PART 1 started with last year.

Other debuts include disaster drama THE 33 (PG) (US$38,083 / 8 screens); Japanese manga-theme teen drama BAKUMAN (PG) (US$17,177 / 8 screens) and Lance Armstrong drug expose THE PROGRAM (NC16) (US$6,842 / 2 screens).

Figures are not available for Japanese anime ARPEGGIO OF BLUE STEEL - ARS NOVA CADENZA (PG) and concert film WE ARE PERFUME: WORLD TOUR 3RD DOCUMENT (PG) which played with limited sessions on Friday and Saturday.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2 aims to take no. 1

Singapore - THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2 (PG13) opens this week aiming for the number one spot. All the last three Hunger Game films have debut US$1.3m with the second film CATCHING FIRE opening and grossing the highest. MOCKINGJAY - PART 1 started with US$1,690,008 and grossed US$3,772,995.

Other debuts include disaster drama THE 33 (PG); THE PROGRAM (NC16) based on the expose on Lance Armstrong; Japanese manga-theme teen drama BAKUMAN (PG) and Japanese anime ARPEGGIO OF BLUE STEEL - ARS NOVA CADENZA (PG).

Concert film WE ARE PERFUME: WORLD TOUR 3RD DOCUMENT (PG) will also be playing in limited sessions on Friday and Saturday.

SPECTRE and OUR TIMES hold onto top spots

Singapore - SPECTRE and the edited for PG13 rating OUR TIMES 我的少女时代 continue their grip on the top two spots over the past weekend, as newcomers try to find an audience in a blockbuster dominated marketplace.

SPECTRE drops a reasonable 53.1%, grossing another US$827,580 for a US$3,527,619 cume. That's 11.7% behind SKYFALL, which had grossed US$3,995,113 by its second weekend in 2012.

Before conversion from local currency, SPECTRE (S$5,020,860) is actually 2.58% ahead of SKYFALL (S$4,891,177) due to the stronger American dollar.

New releases include crime thriller LEGEND (M18), horor comedy SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE (M18) and Hong Kong romance RETURN OF THE CUCKOO 十月初五的月光 (PG) and sci-fi romance FLY ME TO VENUS 星语心愿之再爱 (PG).

SPECTRE debuts at no. 1 with US$1.76m

Singapore - Daniel Craig's fourth outing as Bond in SPECTRE (PG13) grabs the no. 1 spot with US$1,764,844 from 116 screens (including IMAX) for a US$15,214 average.  That's lower than SKYFALL's US$2,243,757 debut and US$26,711 average back in 2012 even after currency exchange rates are factored in.

Last weekend's reigning champ, the edited for a PG13 rating OUR TIMES 我的少女时代 has the lowest drop among holdovers, slipping 25.5% and grossing another US$412,673 for a cume of US$1,840,784. It has the weekend's highest screen average for a third consecutive week as its US$15,872 beats SPECTRE by a slim US$658.

007 aiming for no. 1

Singapore - SPECTRE (PG13), the latest 007 outing (and apparently final one for Daniel Craig) will lead the list of newcomers this weekend (with premium sessions including IMAX).

Other debuts are friendship drama MISS YOU ALREADY (NC16); Thai teenage comedy MAY WHO? (PG13); period drama STONEWALL (R21 Edited); comedy ROCK THE KASBAH (NC16) and documentary THE DROP BOX (PG13).

OUR TIMES celebrate with no. 1 ascend

Singapore - The PG13 edited cut of OUR TIMES 我的少女时代 (a NC16 rated uncut version was passed but not released) moves up one notch to become the new no. 1 film over the weekend. It collected US$553,738 - a 19.3% increase over the last weekend (without adding more screens to the current 26) for a total tally of US$1,212,377 to date.

The last film to achieve the rare second weekend spike was LOST IN HONG KONG 港囧, which saw a 19.5% pickup with 3 additional screens (the Chinese comedy, which is still playing has grossed US$228,599 to date).
