ZOOTOPIA beats EGYPT to no. 1

Singapore - Disney's ZOOTOPIA (PG) beats GODS OF EGYPT (PG13) to no. 1, grossing US$704,725 from 44 screens for a strong US$16,016 per screen average while the Gerard Butler mythological epic is just slightly behind with US$583,036 from 37 screens for a mighty US$15,758 average. Both films are also playing on IMAX 3D, with the animated hit also screening with limited 3D options.

Former box office champ DEADPOOL (M18) drops to third place, while holdovers MERMAID 美人鱼 (PG) and HOW TO BE SINGLE (NC16) round up the top five.

Also new is Eric Khoo's international version of IN THE ROOM (R21), which also happens to be the third local release of the year. The erotic drama debuts outside the top ten with a decent-but-nothing-to-shout-about gross of US$21,208 from 5 screens.

GODS OF EGYPT aim to beat DEADPOOL

Singapore - GODS OF EGYPT (PG13) attack cinemas aiming for box office gold this weekend. Premium formats include IMAX 3D. Disney's ZOOTOPIA (PG) also starts with IMAX 3D and 3D options.

Other new releases include THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR (PG13), RIDE ALONG 2 (PG13), TRUMBO (PG13), THE GIGOLO 2 鸭王 2 (R21) and the international version of IN THE ROOM (R21).

Opening exclusively at the Projector is Oscar Best Foreign Language Film nominee SON OF SAUL (M18).

DEADPOOL now with US$3.4m

Singapore - DEADPOOL (M18) commands the no. 1 spot for a second weekend, and in the process becomes the first restricted rating movie to gross more than US$1m over two weekends. It made another US$1,020,038 for a US$3,404,501 cume. It's also now the highest grossing film of 2016 to date.
 
Previous runner-ups MERMAID 美人鱼 (PG) and LONG LONG TIME AGO 我们的故事 (PG13) hold their positions at no. 2 and no. 3 respectively. MERMAID has now collected US$2,358,028, while LONG LONG TIME AGO's tally stands at US$2.37m.

HOW TO BE SINGLE (NC16) is the week's highest debut at no. 4 while fellow debutant THE FINEST HOURS (PG13) rounds up the top five.

DEADPOOL hits no. 1

Singapore - DEADPOOL (M18) slices its way to the number one spot, becoming the highest grossing NC16 or M18 rated weekend debut in the country with a US$1,759373 haul (including IMAX). Add in Wednesday's sneaks and the total climbs up to US$1,839,537.

Swimming into the runner-up spot is Stephen Chow's MERMAID 美人鱼 (PG), which opened last Monday.

Last weekend's champion LONG LONG TIME AGO 我们的故事 (PG13) slips to number three while FROM VEGAS TO MACAU III 赌城风云 III (PG13 Edited) and THE MONKEY KING 2 西游记之孙悟空三打白骨精 (PG13) round up the top five.

LONG LONG TIME AGO takes CNY box office crown

Singapore - LONG LONG TIME AGO 我们的故事 (PG13) takes the box office crown over the Lunar New Year weekend. It's reported to have gross US$1.18m (S$1.65m) from Thursday to Tuesday.

FROM VEGAS TO MACAU III 赌城风云 III (PG13 Edited) and THE MONKEY KONG 2 西游记之孙悟空三打白骨精 (PG13) grossed US$1.07m (S$1.497m) and US$598k (S$836k) respectively from sneaks on Friday and full sessions from Saturday through Tuesday.

THE REVENANT (M18) grossed US$337,928 for a US$503,038 cume over Thursday to Sunday while NORM OF THE NORTH (PG) made US$22,879 over the same period.

New releases gear top for CNY Battle

Singapore - New releases are staggered as they gear up for a big fight during the upcoming Lunar New Year. Up first is the first chapter of Jack Neo's LONG LONG TIME AGO 我们的故事 (PG13), Oscar nominee THE REVENANT (M18) and animated pic NORM OF THE NORTH (PG) opening on Thursday. THE REVENANT will also be available in IMAX.

Opening on Friday is the Chapman To directed Malaysia-Singapore co-production LET'S EAT 开饭啦!(PG).

Starting its run on Saturday is FROM VEGAS TO MACAU III 赌城风云 III (PG13 Edited) with a star studded cast led by Chow Yun-Fatt and THE MONKEY KING 2 西游记之孙悟空三打白骨精 (PG13) starring Aaron Kwok. Both films will also have sneaks on Friday.

THE BOY haunts no. 1

Singapore - THE BOY (PG13) haunts the no. 1 spot with US$284,495 from 30 screens while DIRTY GRANDPA (M18) debuts at no. 1 with US$148,564 from 27 screens.

Last week's top film THE 5TH WAVE (PG13) drops to fourth place, while THE BIG SHORT (NC16 Edited) and IP MAN 3 叶问 3 (PG13) round up the top five at positions no. 3 and 5 respectively.

Also new this week is THE DRESSMAKER (PG13) with US$17,174 from 6 screens.

Meanwhile, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS has crossed S$1m and is now the highest grossing IMAX release in Singapore.
