KUNG FU YOGA is CNY B.O. Champ

Singapore - KUNG FU YOGA 功夫瑜伽 (PG13) ruled the box office over the Lunar New Year weekend. The Jackie Chan action vehicle sneaked on Thursday and opened on Friday with an estimated US$964,600 (S$1.37m) gross through to Sunday. It grossed an estimated US$1.3m (S$1.85m) after Monday's takings were counted.

xXx: THE RETURN OF XAVIER CAGE (PG13), which topped the box office last weekend claimed the runners-up spot. The Stephen Chow produced JOURNEY TO THE WEST 2: THE DEMONS STRIKE BACK 西游2： 伏妖篇  (PG) (which opened on Saturday) landed in third place, while local films TAKE 2 遇见贵人 (PG13) and THE FORTUNE HANDBOOK 财神爷 (PG) round up the top five.

Singapore - KUNG FU YOGA 功夫瑜伽 (PG13) which reunites Jackie Chan with director Stanley Tong and Stephen Chow's JOURNEY TO THE WEST: THE DEMONS STRIKE BACK 西游2： 伏妖篇  (PG) helmed by Tsui Hark leads the new films opening over the Lunar New Year weekend. YOGA sneaks on Thursday and opens Friday while WEST sneaks on Friday and opens Saturday.

Local flicks THE FORTUNE HANDBOOK 财神爷 (PG) and TAKE 2 遇见贵人 (PG13) are the first Singapore films to open this year.

Also opening is Ben Afflek's LIVE BY NIGHT (M18).

xXx is No. 1 with US$1m

Singapore - XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE (PG13) takes the no. 1 spot with an estimated US$1,028,307. Premium options including IMAX. Rex cinemas are also screening a Tamil-dubbed version of the Vin Diesel flick.

Other new releases include SPLIT (PG13) (US$202,937), HACKSAW RIDGE (M18) (US$91,966) and THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS (PG Edited) (US$7,175).
