DUNKIRK no. 1; MONSTER fails to scare

Singapore - DUNKIRK (PG13) repeats at no. 1 with the rest of the top five containing holdovers. WOLF WARRIOR II 战狼 II (NC16) is the highest debut at no. 6.

MON MON MON MONSTERS 报告老师!怪怪怪怪物!(NC16 Edited) is the new film with the most locations (figures unavailable) but fails to scare. It starts at no. 8, just below ATOMIC BLONDE (R21).

THE BIG SICK (NC16) and ALL MY GODDESS 女人永远是对的 (PG13) open outside the top ten.

Amongst holdovers, BABY DRIVER (NC16) proved to be that rare film with second weekend grosses higher than the first. The Edgar Wright driven vehicle has collected US$472,598 to date.

Edited Mon Mon Mon MONSTERS is widest debut

Singapore - Giddens' MON MON MON MONSTERS 报告老师!怪怪怪怪物!(NC16 Edited) leads the pack of new releases. WOLF WARRIOR II 战狼 II (NC16) also opens wide.

Other debuts include ATOMIC BLONDE (R21) (16 screens), THE BIG SICK (NC16) (10 screens, including the Projector) and ALL MY GODDESS 女人永远是对的 (PG13) (GV Vivocity only).

All three Mandarin language films open on a Friday while the other new films start on the typical Thursday.

MON MON MON MONSTERS is the 9th edited release of the year; and the 5th in which an uncut version was passed but held back in lieu of an edited version with a looser rating.

Other entrants opening wide include BABY DRIVER (NC16) and VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS (PG) (including 3D).

Opening on three Shaw screens is THE BAD BATCH (M18) and CRAYON SHIN-CHAN: INVASION!! ALIEN SHIRIRI (PG13) on four GV screens.

THE BIG SICK (NC16) sneaked over the weekend.

Singapore - DUNKIRK (PG13) opens with IMAX options, VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS (PG) starts with 3D choices, and BABY DRIVER (NC16) zooms into cinemas.

Opening on three Shaw screens is THE BAD BATCH (M18) and CRAYON SHIN-CHAN: INVASION!! ALIEN SHIRIRI (PG13) on four GV screens.

THE BIG SICK (NC16) sneaks over the weekend.

HOMECOMING fends off WAR

Singapore - SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (PG13) retains the no. 1 spot for a second weekend, fending off an attack from WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES (PG), which debuts at no. 2. HOMECOMING collects another US$1,070,232 for a US$3,875,386 to date. Figures for APES are not available.

Opening in third place is WU KONG 悟空传 (PG). Other new releases include WISH UPON (PG13) and THE VILLAINESS (M18).

WAR arrives

Singapore - WAR FOR THE PLANET OF APES (PG) erupts in theatres this weekend but it may not win the fight against reigning champ, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (PG13). WISH UPON (PG13), WU KONG 悟空传 (PG) and THE VILLAINESS (M18) are the other new releases.

HOMECOMING brings Spidey back with US$2.2m

Singapore - SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (PG13) swings into the no. 1 spot with US$2,296,431 from 140 screens, including 3D and IMAX 3D. The rest of the top five consists of blockbuster holdovers all dropping a notch each.

The real standout is BAD GENIUS (PG), which has been hanging around the top ten for five weeks. It moves up two positions, the second time it has done so, a rare feat in today's market. Unfortunately, box office figures are not available at the point of writing.

Singapore - SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (PG13) will take the box office crown this weekend, with premium options that include 3D and IMAX 3D.

Other opening films are SOCCER KILLER 仙球大战 (PG13) (9 screens), OUR TIME WILL COME 明月几时有 (PG13) (5 screens), IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD (PG13) (4 screens) and CHURCHILL (PG) which plays only at Lido.

TRANSFORMERS 5 at US$4m as it repeats at no. 1

Singapore - TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT (PG13) holds at no. 1 for a second weekend. Its cumulative gross now stands at US$4,001,157.

The top four remain unchanged with DESPICABLE ME 3 (PG), WONDER WOMAN (PG) and THE MUMMY (PG13) filling in the next three spots.

OVERDRIVE (PG13) is the highest debut at no. 5. Other new releases include RESET 逆时营救 (PG13) (13 screens), THE WALL (M18) (12 screens), THE HOUSE (NC16) (13 screens), ZOMBIOLOGY: ENJOY YOURSELF TONIGHT 今晚打喪屍 (NC16) (11 screens) and MY COUSIN RACHEL (NC16) (8 screens).
