THE EQUALIZER 2 attacks theatres

Singapore - THE EQUALIZER 2 (NC16) makes its way into theatres this weekend. Premium options include IMAX.

Other wide releases include TEEN TITANS GO! TO THE MOVIES (PG), EUROPE RAIDERS 欧洲攻略(PG), KIN (PG13), PAPILLON (M18) and THOMAS & FRIENDS: BIG WORLD! BIG ADVENTURES! THE MOVIE (G) (GV screens).

Malay horror sequel MUNAFIK 2 (NC16) sneaked on 29 August (Wednesday) and opens at 8 Cathay cinemas on Thursday. 

Debuts on limited screens include MIRAI (PG) (5 Cathay screens) and GO BROTHER! 快把我哥带走 (PG) (FilmGarde Bugis+ & Century Square). PANDAS (G), an IMAX 3D documentary plays on 3 screens.

CRAZY RICH ASIANS debuts with US$2.27m

Singapore - CRAZY RICH ASIANS (PG13) debuts at no. 1. It made US$1.8 million according to a report in Variety. Lianhe Zaobao reports the cume to be an estimated US$2,270,064. The romantic comedy started with Tuesday previews (21 Aug) and opened on Wednesday - which was also Hari Raya Haji (22 Aug).

ALONG WITH THE GODS 2: THE LAST 49 DAYS (PG13) and THE FIRST PURGE (M18) also kicked off with Tuesday sneaks and opened on Wednesday. AWTG2 grossed an estimated US$395,43. THE FIRST PURGE picked up US$107,140 over Thursday through Sunday for a final cume of US$164,915 from 20 screens.

CRAZY RICH ASIANS lead mid-week debuts

Singapore - CRAZY RICH ASIANS (PG13) opens on a Wednesday following Tuesday previews.  Also starting with Tuesday sneaks and opening on Wednesday are ALONG WITH THE GODS 2: THE LAST 49 DAYS (PG13) and THE FIRST PURGE (M18) .

DOWN A DARK HALL (PG13) sneaks on Wednesday (22 Aug) and opens on Thursday (23 Aug). L STORM L风暴 (NC16), THE ISLAND 一出好戏 (PG13) and THE DAY AFTER VALENTNE'S (PG13) (GV VivoCity & Plaza) opens on Thursday.

THE MEG is #1 for a 2nd Week

Singapore - THE MEG (PG13) commands the no. 1 spot for a 2nd weekend. The Jason Statham shark pic has now grossed an estimated US$1,655,364. 

The Donnie Yen-starrer BIG BROTHER 大师兄 (PG13) is the week's highest debut at no. 2 with an estimated US$357,325. MILE 22 (M18) starring Mark Wahlberg and Indonesian star Iko Uwais kicks off with US$137,000 from 31 screens.

ALPHA (PG), the other wide release starts with US$110,199 from 33 screens, including IMAX. Malaysia's new highest grossing local film HANTU KAK LIMAH (PG13) debuts with an estimated US$109,385 from 8 screens.

3 new releases challenge THE MEG

Singapore - MILE 22 (M18), ALPHA (PG) and BIG BROTHER 大师兄 (PG13) open wide this week. ALPHA is also available in IMAX.

Other debuts include HANTU KAK LIMAH (PG13) (8 screens), HERSTORY (PG13 Edited) (3 Cathay screens) and REPUBLIC OF FOOD (PG13) (2 Cathay screens).

HERSTORY is the 9th edited film of the year and the 4th in which the edited version is released in lieu of a "Passed Clean" version with a more restrictive rating. ROF is the 6th local release of the year.

Singapore - THE MEG (PG13) shreds apart all competition and debuts at no. 1 with an estimated US$1,070,336. Premium options include 3D and IMAX 3D.

Local horror 23:59: THE HAUNTING HOUR (PG13) scares its way to a no. 3 opening with an estimated US$305,810. It's the 5th local release of the year.

MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN (PG) begins at no. 4 with US$222,750. Combined with sneaks and the cumulative for the musical sequel stands at US$336,182.

THE MEG aims to gobble up competitors

Singapore - THE MEG (PG13), MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN (PG) and 23:59: THE HAUNTING HOUR (PG13) open wide this National Day weekend. 

THE MEG is also available in 3D and IMAX 3D while 23:59 is the 5th local release of the year.

On the specialty release circuit, 6 sessions of JIMAMI TOFU (PG) will be screened at GV Gold Class Vivocity and GV Gold Class Suntec between 10 to 25 August.

MI6 keeps debuts away from #1

Singapore - MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT (PG13) maintains the lead at the box office. It grossed a further US$1,116,170 from 128 screens for a US$3,587,304 cume.

The new releases opening wide are CHRISTOPHER ROBIN (PG) (US$182,208), THE DARKEST MINDS (PG) (US$164,439 / 36 screens) and THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME (NC16) (US$65,873 / 22 screens).

Debuts on limited screens include KUNTILANAK: GHOST IN THE MIRROR (PG13) (8 Cathay screens), PATRICK (PG) (7 screens), BUYBUST (NC16) (6 GV screens) and MEN ON THE DRAGON 逆流大叔 (PG13) (4 Cathay screens).
