Singapore - Action thriller THE EQUALIZER debuts at no. 1 with US$436,823 from 45 screens (including IMAX) for a US$9,707 screen average. It's the 3rd lowest grossing no.1 debut of the year and and has the lowest screen average amongst no. 1 debuts. Only THE LEGEND OF HERCULES (US$394,887) and BRICK MANSIONS (US$369,517) started with less but both films racked up a higher screen average counts.
THE EQUALIZER's gross is comparable to last weekend's A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES. The thriller which is also anchored by an established action star started with US$356,339 from 40 screens for a US$8,909 screen average.
In a continuation of weak debuts from films with big names, the gangster flick THE PRINCE which stars Bruce Willis arrives D.O.A. with just US$60,368 from 25 screens for a terrible US$2,415 screen average.
Other debuts include Australian horror THE BABADOOK (US$99,776 including sneaks / 12 screens) and Japanese action film LUPIN THE THIRD (US$31,666 / 11 screens / edited for PG13 rating).
In its second weekend, THE LONGEST WEEK grossed a total of US$7,952 (figures unavailable last weekend).
THE MAZE RUNNER joins the US$3m club as its cume hits US$3,090,402 in its 3rd weekend. It's now one of 13 films that has crossed the US$3m mark and the 11th highest grossing film of 2014.
Slow burner CAFE.WAITING.LOVE 等一个人咖啡 has grossed US$448,431 as of its 4th weekend. The edited for a PG13 romance has never dipped below 26% in its week-to-week depreciation and is currently the 7th highest grossing Mandarin film and one of the top romantic flicks of the year.
Overall, the Top 10 films grossed US$1,448,297, which is a 13.8% dip from the last weekend but a 16.49% increase from the same frame a year ago when RUNNER RUNNER debut at no. 1.
