SEVENTH SON claims 1st Box Office Weekend of 2015!

Singapore - SEVENTH SON claims the first box office weekend of 2015. It opens on 51 screens including a single 3D screen and IMAX 3D. TRASH, from the director of BILLY ELLIOT debuts at no. 5 (14 screens) while the only other top ten debut is SERENA, which comes in at no. 9 (13 screens).

Other debuts include Thai action pic VENGEANCE OF AN ASSASSIN (8 screens) and American indie THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY: THEM (5 screens).

Sneaks over the weekend include Tsui Hark's THE TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN 智取威虎山 and the first local release of the year, BRING BACK THE DEAD 招魂.

UPDATE: 

Box Office Mojo, which went without updates from 16 Nov 2014 has started to publish the missing weeks. Rather than to do a revised update, I thought I'll just add an appendix to compare how accurately I counted the number of screens. For movies opening on lots of screens (usually multiple prints at single locations), I tend to get the numbers wrong. For releases in the teens or single digits, the discrepancy (if any) is minute.

Noteworthy amongst the week's new films is top debut SEVENTH SON which scored a screen average of US$17,696 - a rather impressive tally for a blockbuster that's not a sequel, spin off or remake of an existing successful property.
