SINGAPORE - X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST maintains its grip on the top spot as MALEFICIENT debuts at no. 2.
The new Bryan Singer flick collects another US$1,669,611 and brings the total for the mutant super hero pic to an astounding US$5,819,768 in just 11 days of release. That's slightly ahead of what THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, this year's top film to date grossed after its second weekend (US$5,600,043).
Meanwhile, MALEFICENT starts with US$1,244,814 from 63 screens (including 3D) for the week's highest screen average of US$19,759. It's the 7th biggest debut of the year and the 8th film to start above US$1m this year.
Other new entrants include the Hong Kong thriller OVERHEARD 3 窃听风云 3 (US$105,065 / 17 screens) and Zhang Yimou's COMING HOME 归来 (US$37,988 / 6 screens).
The 65-minute Japanese thriller DUSK has grossed US$5,702 as of its second weekend (figures last weekend unavailable).
Also collecting US$203,588 from 52 screens is the new Tom Cruise sci-fi flick EDGE OF TOMORROW doing its round of sneak previews.
Overall, the Top 10 films grossed US$3,499,379 - a 12.9% decrease from the last weekend; but a 26.11% increase from the same frame a year ago when FAST & FURIOUS 6 spent a second weekend at no. 1.
