KFP3 and ZOOTOPIA keep newcomers from no. 1

by Lau Chee Nien / 21 Mar 2016

Singapore - KUNG FU PANDA 3 (G) and ZOOTOPIA (PG) continue their dominance of the box office. While KFP3 grossed US$774,565 for a US$3,265,669 cume, ZOOTOPIA continues to impress with its holding power. As it concludes it fourth weekend, it collects a further US$712,808 - the highest in all its four weekends and a total of US$3,358,896 to date.

The majority of releases sees their highest takings in their first weekend. For a film to perform strongest in its fourth weekend is nothing short of amazing.

The week's widest new release THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT (PG13) debuts in third place with US$649,146 from 50 screens. It's the lowest start for the franchise whose first film started with US$962,731 from 58 screens, and the second, INSURGENT with US$881,352 from 56 screens.

KUNG FU PANDA 3 commands no. 1

by Lau Chee Nien / 14 Mar 2016

Singapore - KUNG FU PANDA 3 (G) debuts at no. 1 with US$1,244,744 from 138 screens for a US$9,020 screen average. Premium formats include 3D and IMAX 3D. The total with sneaks add up to US$1,880,189.

Considering how big a hit the second film was (first weekend tally of US$2,627,425 and a US$32,843 screen average, with a US$7,416,602 finish making it the highest grossing animated film of all time in Singapore), the starting figure of part 3 doesn't look that promising.

On the up side, it is the highest opening animated film of all time in March, and the third biggest start for a March release behind G.I. JOE: RETALIATION (US$2,428,150) and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (US$2,399,271) (The figures include sneaks and are converted into that period's American currency).
