Another crowded weekend with wide debuts

Singapore - DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD (PG) and 47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED (PG13) lead another weekend of wide debuts that also include REVENGE OF THE PONTIANAK (PG13) and THE BRAVEST 《烈火英雄》 (PG13). PONTIANAK is the 6th local film to screen in cinemas this year.

Other releases include PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE (PG), SANGKAR (PG13) and WARNING: DO NOT PLAY (NC16).

SICCIN 6 (NC16) and JUST A STRANGER (NC16) start on Friday (30 Aug) at selected Golden Village cinemas.

THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 (PG) sneaks island wide.

ANGEL HAS FALLEN debuts at no. 1

Singapore - ANGEL HAS FALLEN (NC16) drops in at the no. 1 spot with an estimated US$417,787.

BODIES AT REST《沉默的证人》(NC16) is the next highest debut at no. 5 with an estimated US$72,032. READY OR NOT (M18) (8 Cathay cinemas) also enters the top 10 at no. 7.

Other releases include MAKMUM (PG13) (12 Golden Village screens), AFTER THE WEDDING (PG13) (4 Shaw cinemas), PAVAROTTI (PG13) (Lido exclusive) and APOLLO 11 (PG) (Lido IMAX).

Specialty releases include CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE RESURRECTION (NC16) (5 Golden Village cinemas, premium price) and OVERCOMER (PG) (from 23 August, Friday exclusively at Salt Media @ Capital Tower and EagleWings Cinematics).

ANGEL HAS FALLEN leads new releases

Singapore - ANGEL HAS FALLEN (NC16) and BODIES AT REST 《沉默的证人》 (NC16) open wide. Also new in theatres are MAKMUM (PG13) (12 Golden Village screens), READY OR NOT (M18) (8 Cathay cinemas), AFTER THE WEDDING (PG13) (4 Shaw cinemas), PAVAROTTI (PG13) (Lido exclusive), APOLLO 11 (PG) (Lido IMAX) and the premium priced Japanese anime, CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE RESURRECTION (NC16) (5 Golden Village cinemas).

The IMAX version of FREE SOLO (PG13) opens at 3 IMAX screens from 24 August, Saturday. The 2D version was released at the Projector earlier this year from 24 February.

The faith-based OVERCOMER (PG) starts on 23 August, Friday exclusively at Salt Media @ Capital Tower and EagleWings Cinematics.

HOBBS & SHAW captures US$3.6m after third weekend at No. 1

Singapore - FAST & FURIOUS: HOBBS & SHAW (PG13) spends a third weekend in the lead. The frenemies action pic has grossed US$3,621,779 to date.

ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD (M18) is the highest debut at no. 2 with US$219,383 from 25 screens. SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK (NC16), THE DIVINE FURY (NC16 Edited) (est. US$108,265), POCONG THE ORIGIN (PG13) (5 Cathay screens) and STUBER (M18) (US$43,875) also appear in the top ten at positions 5 through 8 respectively.

Other debuts include BLINDED BY THE LIGHT (PG) and TROUBLE (PG) (8 Golden Village screens) (US$8,880).

STUBER leads list of wide releases

Singapore - STUBER (M18), ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD (M18), THE DIVINE FURY (NC16 Edited), SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK (NC16) and BLINDED BY THE LIGHT (PG) are the main wide releases this week.

Other debuts include TROUBLE (PG) (8 Golden Village screens) and POCONG THE ORIGIN (PG13) (5 Cathay screens).

On the specialty circuit, IN FABRIC (R21) starts on Friday (16 Aug) at the Projector.

FURY is the 10th edited release of the year.

HOBBS & SHAW lead again for a 2nd Week

Singapore - FAST & FURIOUS: HOBBS & SHAW (PG13) maintains its no. 1 lead for a second weekend with a cume of US$3,294,240. THE LION KING (PG) also holds its position and has grossed US$,3,492, 885 after four weekends. 

LINE WALKER 2: INVISIBLE SPY 《使徒行者2谍影行动 》(NC16) is the highest debut at no. 3 with an estimated US$303K, followed by YESTERDAY (PG13) at no. 4 (US$136,916 cume), THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN (PG) at no. 6 (US$38,806) and BLINDING SOULS 《绑灵》(NC16) (8 screens) at no. 10.

Singapore - FAST & FURIOUS: HOBBS & SHAW (PG13) opens at no. 1 with US$1,832,401, including sneaks according to The Numbers. Box Office Mojo reports a higher gross at US$1,938,809. Premium options include 3D and IMAX 3D.

Other debuts include THE ROOKIES 《素人特工》 (PG13) (est. US$9,870) and FISHERMAN'S FRIENDS (PG13) (Lido exclusive).

Among holdovers, THE LION KING (PG) has grossed US$3,063,293 while the critically acclaimed PARASITE (M18) has sucked in an estimated US$312K.
