SINGAPORE - THE SMURFS 2 return to the top of the box office almost 2 years after the original made its way to no. 1. Grossing US$896,663 from 55 screens for a US$13,514 screen average, its box office glow isn't as bright as the last outing, which started with US$1,088,177 from 51 screens and a US$21,337 screen average.
Starting in the runner-up spot is this week's top screen average earner, THE CONJURING which grossed US$717,166 from 31 screens for a terrifyingly good US$23,134 screen average. The film has already smashed passed the US$1m mark with sneak previews added in; its total tally is now US$1,078,999.
The supernatural buddy cop action flick R.I.P.D. starts at no. 3 with a fantastic US$589,847 from 30 screens and a US$19,662 screen average. Both THE SMURFS 2 and R.I.P.D. are screening with 2D and 3D options.
Rounding up the Top 5 is THE WOLVERINE, which has grossed US$3,727,000 to date; and TURBO which has grossed US$750,588.
Amongst holdovers, PACIFIC RIM became the 7th film to cross the US$4m mark this year. It has now grossed US$4,061,776. Meanwhile, THAT GIRL IN PINAFORE 我的朋友,我的同学,我爱过的一切, the 10th domestic release of the year has grossed US$219,076 as of its second weekend. YOSSI, the single print release lasts another week but box office figures are still not listed.
Overall, the top ten films over the Hari Raya Puasa and National Day holiday long weekend grossed US$3,154,416, which is a 49.2% increase from the last weekend, and a 7.63% increase from the same frame a year ago when THE BOURNE LEGACY debut at no. 1.
