Singapore - MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - ROGUE NATION claims the no. 1 spot for a second weekend in a row, keeping FANTASTIC FOUR (PG) from scoring a home run during the National Day weekend.
The rebooted FANTASTIC FOUR is reported to have grossed US$1.36m from 62 screens from Thursday to Sunday. That's within range of last August's top debuts - TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES with US$1,449,438 from 77 screens (including sneaks), and the Scarlett Johansson sci-fi thriller LUCY with US$1,455,514 from 66 screens.
Due to a stronger American currency, FANTASTIC FOUR (S$1,882,893) actually performed marginally better than both those films despite playing on slightly less screens (S$1,814,247 for TURTLES and S$1,817,733 for LUCY).
Reed Richards and his family however paled in comparison to their last cinematic outing - FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER kicked off with US$1,341,532 / S$2,064,081 from 79 screens back in June 2007.
Holdovers ANT-MAN and 1965 fill up the next two spots while another newcomer, VACATION (M18) round up the top five.
Other debuts include Dante Lam's TO THE FORE 破风 (PG13), thriller THE GIFT (NC16) and British crime mystery MR. HOLMES (PG) starring Ian McKellen.
In addition, PIXELS (PG) and ATTACK ON TITAN also sneaked. ATTACK is the first Asian film to be screened in the D-Box format, and the first movie to be ever released with dual ratings simultaneously in both edited NC16 and M18 uncut versions.
PIXELS is reported to have grossed a figure between 1965 and VACATION, while ATTACK ON TITAN's sneaks amassed a figure between TO THE FORE and THE GIFT. Actual figures for most films this weekend are not available.
