Singapore - The monsters and ghouls from HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2 (PG) beat disaster pic EVEREST (PG) to the number one spot. Or did it? Ranked the top film by the Cinematograph Film Exhibitors Association, the animated sequel grossed US$759,728 from 40 screens (including 3D) according to tracking site The Numbers. The same site reports that EVEREST grossed US$798,687 from 54 screens (including 3D and IMAX 3D). So how did it get ranked lower?
Until CFEA starts publishing official figures and making them publicly available, discrepancies like this will remain unresolved.
Other debuts include comedy THE INTERN (PG13), Japanese survival horror ATTACK ON TITAN II: END OF THE WORLD (NC16), young adult drama WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS (M18) (US$18,507 / 8 screens) and the Johnny To musical OFFICE 华丽上班族 (PG).
Amongst holdovers, Korean action drama ASSASSINATION dips a minute 8% and has now grossed US$41,968 for a film that opened on only 2 screens.
