MAZE RUNNER 3 takes top spot

Singapore - MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE (PG13) finds its way to no. 1 with US$970,391 from 91 screens. Premium options include IMAX 3D.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (PG) dips down to second place after reaching no. 1 last week. Its cume is now an estimated US$2,118,709.

ALONG WITH THE GODS (PG13) is holding on strong as it climbs up one spot in its third weekend. It has grossed an estimated US$596,604 to date.

ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD (NC16) is the only other top ten debut.

MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE unleashed

Singapore - MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE (PG13) and ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD (NC16) open wide.  The finale in the MAZE RUNNER trilogy also screens in IMAX 3D.

Other releases include THE LAST RECIPE (PG) (8 screens), PHANTOM THREAD (NC16) (5 screens, including Projector), LAST FLAG FLYING  (NC16) (2 Shaw screens), SHUTTLE LIFE 分贝人生 (M18) (2 Cathay screens), EARTH: ONE AMAZING DAY (G) (English version @ Lido, Mandarin version @ nex) and BASED ON A TRUE STORY (PG13) (Lido).

The controversial PADMAAVAT (PG13) (Hindi version) - noteworthy amongst Indian releases this week starts at Carnival Cinemas and most GV screens. A 3D version plays @ GV VivoCity.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN reaches no. 1 in 4th Week!

Singapore - THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (PG) ascends to no. 1 in its fourth week. The P.T. Barnum musical debut at no. 3 and spent two weeks there before climbing to no. 2. This week, it reached the pinnacle and a special sing-along version will be released at Lido on 1 Feb. Total cume is now US$1,809,954.

The last film to spend its fourth weekend at no. 1 is TRAIN TO BUSAN (NC16) back in August 2016. The zombie thriller was also a non no. 1 debut which reached the top in its 3rd weekend.

And before that, AH BOYS TO MEN 2 新兵正传 II (PG13) and AVATAR (PG) were the last two films to spend their fourth weekends as box office champions in February 2013 and January 2010 respectively. Both films held on to no. 1 for four weeks.   

12 STRONG leads new films

Other top ten debuts include ALONG WITH THE GODS (PG13) and DOWNSIZING (NC16 Edited), the year's first edited release and also the first in which a "passed clean" version is jettisoned in favour of an edited cut with a less restrictive rating.

INSIDIOUS 4 unlocks the door to no. 1

Singapore - INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY (PG13) unlocks the door to no. 1 with a US$484,226 gross from 31 screens.

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE (PG) drops to 2nd place after three weeks. It has now outgrossed STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (PG13), which is in its 4th week. The tally for both films stand at S$4,551,058 and US$4,486,912 respectively.

Other top ten debuts include DARKEST HOUR (PG) (US$79,691, including sneaks) and LEGEND OF THE DEMON CAT 妖猫传 (PG13) (estimated US$58,029).

THOR: RAGNAROK is #1 in 2017

Singapore - THOR: RAGNAROK (PG13) is the top film at the Singapore box office in 2017, according to a report published in Lianhe Zaobao. It grossed an estimated US$6.06m (S$8.1m).

In 2016, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (PG13) was that year's top film with a tally of US$8,396,857.

The highest grossing local title is AH BOYS TO MEN 4 新兵正传 IV (PG13), with an estimated cume of US$3.77m (S$5.04m).

All the films in the top ten are base on familiar properties, from sequels to reboots to films that part of a cinematic universe.

INSIDIOUS 4 is first wide release of 2018

On the art house circuit, CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (R21) opens exclusively at the Projector. Advance sales has been selling out since sales began with new sessions being added. THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER (M18) opens exclusively at the Arts House.

JUMANJI is no. 1 again with US$3.68m cume

Singapore - JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE (PG) holds on to no. 1 for a second weekend. It picks up another US$1,050,201 and ends the year with a US$3,689,290 cume.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (PG) is the highest debut in 3rd place. Other top ten debuts include GOLDBUSTER 姚玲玲 (PG13 Edited) and TAKE ME TO THE MOON 带我去月球 (PG13).

GOLDBUSTER is the 23rd edited film of the year, and the 13th in which an edited cut is released in lieu of a "Passed Clean" version with a more restrictive rating.
