PACIFIC RIM spends 2nd Week at No. 1

22 Jul 2013

SINGAPORE - The battle between monsters and robots continue as PACIFIC RIM holds on to the top spot. The blockbuster pic has now grossed US$3,058,893 after just two weekends. It's the eighth film to cross US$3m at the box office this year.

Meanwhile, DESPICABLE ME 2  has overtaken MAN OF STEEL to become the year's third highest grosser to date with US$5,054,364 in the bank. What's spectacular is the US$21,983 screen average during its third weekend, a feat that shows the hit toon pic is not showing any signs of slowing down just yet.

The highest debut of the week is the Adam Sandler comedy sequel GROWN UPS 2, which starts with US$343,476. Other debuts include the Jason Stratham action pic REDEMPTION (US$33,183); crime action adventure WELCOME TO THE PUNCH (US$24,453); Korean action comedy SECRETLY GREATLY (US$20,235) and the edited version of the R21 rated Thai erotic drama JAN DARA: THE FINALE (US$14,335). Also released but unranked is the Hong Kong horror compendium film TALES FROM THE DARK PART 1 迷离夜.

Overall, the top ten films grossed US$2,135,843 - a 36.4% dip from last weekend and a 36.66% dip from the same frame a year ago when THE DARK KNIGHT RISES debut at no. 1.
