NEED FOR SPEED parked at #1!

SINGAPORE - NEED FOR SPEED, an action flick based on the popular video games finds itself parked at no. 1 with US$5678,040 from 45 screens, including 3D and the all-new D-BOX (both 2D and 3D) format in Singapore.

Last weekend's top movie 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE breaks pass the US$2m mark to become the 3rd highest grossing film of the year to date with US$2,137,206 and counting. The Liam Neeson airplane thriller NON-STOP grossed another US$299,716 for a US$2,130,512 total which places is at no. 4 on the year's top grossing list.

Other debuts include the animated MR. PEABODY AND SHERMAN (2D and 3D options) which grossed US$457,685 for a US$534,327 cume including sneaks. The new animated TARZAN hits the screen with US$64,847 from 23 screens (including 3D) for a lacklustre US$2,819 screen average. Also making a quiet debut is the Hong Kong-Singapore-Taiwan co-produced horror THE SECOND COMING 重生 with US$41,193 from 15 screens (US$2,746 screen average).

The third animated release of the week, THE NUT JOB scores a weak debut with US$20,268 from 17 screens and meek US$1,192 screen average. LABOR DAY picks up US$19,077 from 10 screens while the historical drama from Kazakhstan MYN BALA: WARRIORS OF THE STEPPE earns US$819 from a single screen. Figures for World War II drama THE RAILWAY MAN starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman on 7 Cathay screens is not available.

Malaysian box office champion THE JOURNEY 一路有你 collects US$8,855 in its second and final week of sneak previews for a US$21,517 total to date.

Disney's FROZEN enters its 16th consecutive week of screening as it sees its gross reach US$3,808,549 - it's the 5th highest grossing animated film of all time in Singapore behind KUNG FU PANDA 2 (US$7,416,602), DESPICABLE ME 2 (US$5,650,376), MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE'S MOST WANTED (US$4,860,625) and KUNG FU PANDA (US$4,307,978).

LE-WEEKEND, the British elderly romance which debut last week on a single screen has grossed US$7,727 to date (figures from last weekend unavailable), while Singapore's 2nd local release of the year RE:SOLVE 决议案 disappeared from theatres after just 2 weeks on 3 screens (figures unavailable).

Overall, the top ten films grossed US$2,064,593, a 9.3% decline from the last weekend.
