APES maintain hold at #1

Singapore - DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES spends a 2nd weekend at no. 1. Its total cume now stands at US$2,527,649.

Holding at no. 2 is TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, which has now grossed US$8,340,162 to date. The no. 1 film of 2014 is also currently the 5th biggest all-time box office champ, and one of 5 films that have grossed more than S$10m locally.  

Thai horror CURSED HOUSE is the highest debut at no. 3 (US$61,140 / 11 screens), followed by Clint Eastwood's musical biography JERSEY BOYS at no. 5 (US$55,582 / 25 screens).

Other debuts include the horror comedy A HAUNTED HOUSE 2 (US$16,244 / 3 screens); the edited R21-rated Hong Kong drama MAY WE CHAT 微交少女 (US$10,647 / 4 screens); Japanese anime SPACE PIRATE CAPTAIN HARLOCK (US$10,589 / 3 screens, including a single 3D screen) and Taiwanese horror SOUL 失魂 (US$8,884 / 3 screens).

Meanwhile, the comedy BEHAVING BADLY has earned US$35,466 as of its 2nd weekend (figures unavailable last week).

Indie sensation CHEF scores its highest weekend gross ever with US$26,643 in its 7th week - a 204.1% increase over the last weekend and marginally higher than its US$26,124 debut. The Jon Favreau food comedy is one of those rare films with business on the upswing for the last 3rd consecutive weekends. Its total gross now stands at US$138,580.

This weekend, the Top 10 films' total haul is the 3rd lowest for the year, and the lowest for the month of July in 5 years. With just US$1,502,977 - it's a 37.8% dip from the last weekend and 29.63% lower than the same frame a year ago when PACIFIC RIM held on for a second weekend at no. 1.
