SINGAPORE - ESCAPE PLAN, which pairs 80s action icons Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger debut at no. 1 with US$663,031 from 33 screens for a muscular US$20,092 screen average. It's only the 15th film this year to manage a screen average above US$20,000. On its current trajectory, it may finish with US$1.48m.
Horror remake CARRIE debuts in the runner-up spot with US$283,490 from 30 screens for an okay US$9,450 screen average. Look for a finish between US$446K to US$589K.
The Oscar hopeful drama THE BUTLER serves up US$68,887 from 15 screens for a lukewarm US$4,592 screen average. Add in sneaks and the total to date is US$87,959. A finish in the range of US$196K to US$250K is likely.
Other debuts include Cannes Jury Prize winner LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON, which opens on 6 screens for a total of US$18,365. The edited R21 biopic on Paul Raymond, Britain's richest man banks in only US$5,253 from 2 screens. Crime drama AIN'T THEM BODIES SAINTS plays on a single screen for a dismal US$1,059 total while Japanese comedy IT'S ME, IT'S ME also debuts this weekend on 2 screens (box office figures not available).
Former two week reigning champion, GRAVITY collects another US$273,905 for a US$2,859,444 to date. The Sandra Bullock and George Clooney space survival pic is holding up as projected and looks set to join the US$3m club with a finish in the region of US$3.07m to US$3.17m.
Overall, the top ten films grossed US$1,769,954, a 5.1% increase from the last weekend and a 22.9% increase from the same farm a year ago when PARNORMAL ACTIVITY 4 scared its way to become the top earner.
