TED 2 laughs its way to no. 1!

Singapore - TED 2 becomes the first film to ascend to no. 1 this year. It grossed US$292,293 for a US$1,008,904 total to date. This is slightly behind the original which had grossed US$1.4m by the same time three years ago.

Close behind is former champion TERMINATOR GENISYS in the runner-up spot. It grossed a further US$288,725 for a US$2,761,738 total to date (far ahead of TERMINATOR SALVATION which only grossed US$1.9k by the same time six years ago).

JURASSIC WORLD picked up another US$208,832 in its 5th weekend and overtakes AVATAR to become the 4th highest grossing film of all time in domestic dollars with a total of S$11,584,079 to date.

Highest debut MAGIC MIKE XXL starts with US$205,067, which is slightly higher than the original's US$175k opening. However, the sequel scores a lower per screen average of US$5,542 from its 37 screens against the original's US$7,894 from 22 screens. Its opening figure is also far behind TED 2, which started with US$508,357 last weekend (both are M18-rated flicks from Hollywood).

The other new releases include JU-ON 4: THE FINAL CURSE (PG13), Chen Kaige's edited for PG13 version of MONK COMES DOWN THE MOUNTAIN 道士下山, SURVIVOR (PG13), HOLLYWOOD ADVENTURES 横冲直撞好莱坞 (NC16) and BURYING THE EX (NC16).

Speciality releases include Japanese anime CRAYON SHINCHAN: MY MOVING STORY! CACTUS ATTACK! (PG13) at selected Golden Village screens and British sci-fi thriller EX MACHINA (M18) at the Projector. BAAHUBALI (NC16), touted as the most expensive Indian film ever also opens this week.
