SKYFALL blasts off with US$2.24m in 4 days!

5 Nov 2012

SINGAPORE - In just 4 days, SKYFALL has already grossed US$2,243,757 - more than what CASINO ROYALE did during its entire run in 2006 (US$2,034,804), and almost what QUANTUM OF SOLACE made during its entire run in 2008 (US$2,477,339).

It's also the 4th biggest debut weekend earner of the year behind THE AVENGERS (US$3,441,766), THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (US$2,650,244) and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (US$2,639,859). It's also the 3rd highest screen average of the year (US$26,711), behind SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN (US$28,132) and THE AVENGERS (US$27,756). 84.46% of all tickets sold this past weekend were for SKYFALL.

HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET debuts in the runner up spot with US$106,500 and a screen average of US$6,265.

The other debuts start with terrible results. Korean horror HORRIBLE STORIES begins with US$29,255 and a horrible US$2,250 screen average, while American comedy BUTTER basically melts with US$2,964 from 1 screen. Unranked and probably grossing less than US$11,984 is the Thai romance, SUDDENLY IT'S MAGIC from 4 screens.

Almost all the holdovers fall sharply this week. TAI CHI HERO (太极2) has now outgrossed its predecessor TAI CHI ZERO (太极), with the grosses standing at US$424,713 and US$408,804 respectively.

Sleeper hit THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER takes a 61.9% dip but has grossed US$402,039 after 4 weeks.

BAIT - the Australian-Singapore co-production that has been a hit in some territories, and a miss in others, sinks a heavy 94% in its second week. The total gross is US$145,680. The 3D version of the film was pulled from screens after just 1 week.

Total top ten sales stand at US$2,656,485, up 43.22% compared to the same period a year ago, when local horror, 23:59 claimed the box office crown.
