In 2012 -

13 Singapore films made their way to theatres. That's 4 more than the year before.

Only 3 films managed to gross more than US$1m, compared to 5 in 2011.

Based on available data, 6 films crossed US$1m in both Singapore and Malaysia, compared to 5 in 2011.

The average gross of a Singapore film in its domestic market is US$822,222, up 4.92% from 2011 (US$783,653).

Overall, Singapore films grossed a total of US$9,866,674 at the domestic box office in 2012 - a 39.9% improvement from 2011 (US$7,052,881).

HIGHLIGHTS OF 2012

Jack Neo has the two top grossing domestic films of the year - AH BOYS TO MEN (新兵正传) and WE NOT NAUGHTY (孩子不坏).

AH BOYS TO MEN (新兵正传) broke a 14 year-old box office record. Its total gross after a 13-week run is US$5,088,413 (S$6,311,108).

It set a record for biggest opening for a domestic film with US$1,232,895 (S$1,509,422).

Its screen average of US$33,321 (S$40,795) in its opening weekend is probably the highest amongst all releases in 2012.

WE NOT NAUGHTY (孩子不坏) grossed a total of US$3,035,038 from Singapore and Malaysia.

BAIT, an Australian-Singapore co-production grossed at least US$25.23m in China and US$1,310,502 in Malaysia. The film grossed only US$806,005 in Australia and US$145,680 in Singapore.

THE WEDDING DIARY (结婚那件事), a Singapore-Malaysian co-production grossed US$1,640,549 from both countries. Malaysia accounted for US$1,258,537 of the total box office.
