SINGAPORE - Most of the new entrants this week reap healthy sales with TRANSCENDENCE making a debut at no. 1. The Johnny Depp sci-fi flick grossed US$605,827 from 37 screens (including IMAX) for a strong US$16,374 screen average.
Donnie Yen's ICEMAN 冰封侠:重生之门 proves to be one of the biggest opening Mandarin films this year with US$508,891 from 32 screens (including a single 3D venue) for a mighty US$15,903 screen average. It's currently the 4th highest grossing Mandarin film this year, behind THE MONKEY KING 西游记之大闹天空, which also stars Donnie Yen.
Other steady debuts include the Cameron Diaz female revenge comedy THE OTHER WOMAN (US$361,249 from 31 screens for a US$11,653 screen average) and the faith-based SON OF GOD which collects US$99,962 from just 7 screens for a mighty US$14,280 screen average.
Less successful entries include Hong Kong psychological thriller THAT DEMON WITHIN 魔警 (figures unavailable - but probably somewhere between US$40,705 and US$86,971 from 8 screens) and two films from Japan: KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE (US$6,604/2 screens) and BLACK BUTLER (figures unavailable/2 screens).
THE TRUTH ABOUT BEAUTY 整容日记, which debut last week has grossed US$16,863 to date (figures were not available previously).
Overall, the top ten films grossed US$2,803,866 - a 25.8% increase from the previous weekend and a 84.21% increase from the same frame a year ago when OBLIVION spent a second weekend at no. 1.
