SINGAPORE - THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 sticks to the top spot for a second weekend as it moves closer to becoming the top film of 2014. Dropping a hefty 63.3% from its gargantuan opening week, ASM2 picks up another US$1,255,926 to boost its total tally to US$5,600,043.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, currently the top film of the year with US$5,983,587 dropped 46% during its second weekend, while THOR: THE DARK WORLD and IRON MAN 3 dipped 53.7% and 49.5% respectively.
The highest new entrant this week come from BAD NEIGHBOURS (a.k.a. NEIGHBORS in its home country) - which opens with an impressive US$212,107 from 14 screens. It's the second biggest opening this year for a R21 rated film behind THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, which started with US$300,389 from 15 screens.
Coming in at 3rd place is the 3rd local release of the year, FILIAL PARTY 我是孝子. It grossed US$207,556 from 28 screens for a US$7,413 screen average. In comparison, the Jack Neo executive produced EVERYBODY'S BUSINESS 人人有份 grossed US$272,000 in its first weekend (including sneaks) from 19 screens and a US$12,441 screen average late last year. FILIAL PARTY is one of three domestic films opening during the busy mid-year blockbuster season, with Jack Neo's THE LION MEN: ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN 狮神决战之终极一站 slated for 12 June and Tay Ping Hui's directorial debut MEETING THE GIANT 再见巨人 opening on 19 June.
Other debuts include the critically panned comedy WALK OF SHAME (US$84,926 / 19 screens) and the thriller MINDSCAPE (US$22,379 / 4 screens).
Overall, the total box office top ten gross is US$1,990,640 - a 50.2% drop from the last weekend but a 17.73% increase from the same frame a year ago when IRON MAN 3 held on to the top spot for a third week.
