Twin Horrors Maintain Grip on Box Office Pinnacle

Singapore - Last weekend's top two films swap positions as ANNABELLE takes the lead while DRACULA UNTOLD slips into the runner-up spot. ANNABELLE beats DRACULA to the podium by a slim US$4,898. The Conjuring prequel has grossed US$1,764,102 to date and is also narrowly ahead of The Conjuring which had grossed US$1,738,027 by its second weekend on the way to a US$2,164,452 finish last year.

Universal's DRACULA UNTOLD has amassed a total of US$1,943,749 to date.  

The highest debut comes from David Fincher's missing wife thriller GONE GIRL, which grossed US$312,386 from 24 screens for a US$395,054 total including sneaks. It's the biggest opening for a R21 rated film this year, besting the US$300,389 opening of THE WOLF OF WALL STREET which started on 15 screens in January and grossed US$1,270,281 by the end of its run.

The concluding chapter of Japanese action period flick RUROUNI KENSHIN: THE LEGEND ENDS grossed US$277,646 from 18 screens for the weekend's highest screen average of US$15,425. Throw in sneaks and the total stands at US$285,587. The opening is higher than the second chapter RUROUNI KENSHIN: KYOTO INFERNO which opened with US$220,889 (including sneaks) on 17 screens 6 weeks ago, and has grossed US$585,216 to date.

OUTCAST, the Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen period action film set in China which was pulled from release 24 hours before its Chinese premiere on 26 Sep gets released on 5 screens for a US$15,379 total without much fanfare.

Other debuts include Taiwanese action thriller BLACK AND WHITE: THE DAWN OF JUSTICE 痞子英雄:黎明再起 (US$108,853 including sneaks / 14 screens); crime thriller GOOD PEOPLE (US$34,505 / 7 screens); female comedy LAGGIES (US$24,790 / 7 screens); Hong Kong time travelling comedy FLIRTING IN THE AIR 唐伯虎冲上云霄 starring Chapman To (US$15,379 / 5 screens); Japanese anime SAINT SEIYA: LEGEND OF SANCTUARY (US$14,261 including sneaks / 2 screens) and the edited R21 version of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE 2 (US$6,635 / 2 screens).

The latest screen version of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST has grossed US$109,786 as of its second weekend (figures unavailable last week).

Overall, the Top 10 films grossed US$1,954,363, which is a 27.3% dip from the last weekend and a 6.75% dip from the same frame a year ago when GRAVITY opened at no. 1.
