TAKEN 3 keep INTO THE WOODS from no. 1

19 Jan 2015

Singapore - TAKEN 3 holds onto the no. 1 spot for a second weekend. It's still playing on 56 screens, which is more than INTO THE WOODS (PG13), the highest debut at no. 2 with 41 screens.

Apart from the musical WOODS, four other new films start in the top ten: BLACKHAT (NC16 / 37 screens) at no. 3; BIRDMAN (M18 / 16 screens) at no. 4; THE WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGEL OF DEATH (PG13 / 21 screens) at no. 5 and PARASYTE PART 1 (NC16 / 11 screens) at no. 7.

The edited NC16 cut of WHIPLASH (7 screens) and the single screen showcase BHOPAL: A PRAYER FOR RAIN (PG) start outside the top ten.

Note: Number for screens is an estimate based on information gathered from exhibitors' websites.

UPDATE:

Box Office Mojo, which went without updates from 16 Nov 2014 has started to publish the missing weeks. Rather than to do a revised update, I thought I'll just add an appendix to compare how accurately I counted the number of screens. For movies opening on lots of screens (usually multiple prints at single locations), I tend to get the numbers wrong. For releases in the teens or single digits, the discrepancy (if any) is minute.
