OUR TIMES celebrate with no. 1 ascend

2 Nov 2015

Singapore - The PG13 edited cut of OUR TIMES 我的少女时代 (a NC16 rated uncut version was passed but not released) moves up one notch to become the new no. 1 film over the weekend. It collected US$553,738 - a 19.3% increase over the last weekend (without adding more screens to the current 26) for a total tally of US$1,212,377 to date.

The last film to achieve the rare second weekend spike was LOST IN HONG KONG 港囧, which saw a 19.5% pickup with 3 additional screens (the Chinese comedy, which is still playing has grossed US$228,599 to date).

Other achievements:

OUR TIMES is the highest screen average performer for a second consecutive weekend with a mighty US$21,298.

It's only the second non-debut no. 1 film of the year (TED 2 did it a few months back).

It's the second Asian film to reach no. 1 this year (AH BOYS TO FROGMEN 新兵正传:蛙人传 was the first in February).

It's outpacing Taiwanese compatriot YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE 那些年,我们一起追的女孩, which was the highest grossing Asian film of 2011. Its second weekend gross of US$1,212,377 is 12.18% ahead of APPLE's US$1,064,668 (APPLE would eventually gross US$2,272,504).

Both films are romances with nostalgic elements and released by 20th Century Fox. APPLE was released with a NC16 rating without cuts.

Other releases:

GOOSEBUMPS (PG) is the highest debut popping up in the runner-up spot with US$380,298. Also making their way into the top ten: PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION (NC16) (US$131,664, including 3D); BURNT (NC16) (US$104,574) and GOODBYE MR. LOSER (PG13) (US$29,512).
