SPECTRE and OUR TIMES hold onto top spots

16 Nov 2015

Singapore - SPECTRE and the edited for PG13 rating OUR TIMES 我的少女时代 continue their grip on the top two spots over the past weekend, as newcomers try to find an audience in a blockbuster dominated marketplace.

SPECTRE drops a reasonable 53.1%, grossing another US$827,580 for a US$3,527,619 cume. That's 11.7% behind SKYFALL, which had grossed US$3,995,113 by its second weekend in 2012.

Before conversion from local currency, SPECTRE (S$5,020,860) is actually 2.58% ahead of SKYFALL (S$4,891,177) due to the stronger American dollar.

Taiwanese hit OUR TIMES remains in the runner-up spot and continues to show impressive results -  it grossed US$301,712 from 26 screens for a US$11,604 average - a lead which it has maintained for four consecutive weekends. It has now accumulated US$2,470,309 - and in the process overtaken YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE 那些年,我们一起追的女孩 to become the highest grossing Taiwanese film of all time in Singapore (not counting co-productions like LIFE OF PI). *

With only a slim drop of 26.9%, the edited for PG13 romance is still not showing any signs of slowing down. Will Fox release the uncut NC16 version to boost the film's box office coffers?

(This year, ATTACK ON TITAN became the first film to be screened in two different rating versions simultaneously; while the uncut M18 rated version of CRIMSON PEAK is currently playing at The Projector).

SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE (M18) is the weekend's highest debut with US$155,049 from 21 screens for a US$7,383 screen average.

Other new entrants include crime drama LEGEND (M18) (US$64,840 / 14 screens), romance RETURN OF THE CUCKOO 十月初五的月光 (PG) (US$50,280 / 14 screens) and sci-fi romance FLY ME TO VENUS 星语心愿之再爱 (PG).

As if STONEWALL couldn't have opened to worse numbers last weekend, fellow single print release FLY ME TO VENUS opened with extremely limited sessions and picked up only US$160 for the worst recorded weekend debut ever.**
