KUNG FU PANDA 3 commands no. 1

by Lau Chee Nien / 14 Mar 2016

Singapore - KUNG FU PANDA 3 (G) debuts at no. 1 with US$1,244,744 from 138 screens for a US$9,020 screen average. Premium formats include 3D and IMAX 3D. The total with sneaks add up to US$1,880,189.

Considering how big a hit the second film was (first weekend tally of US$2,627,425 and a US$32,843 screen average, with a US$7,416,602 finish making it the highest grossing animated film of all time in Singapore), the starting figure of part 3 doesn't look that promising.

On the up side, it is the highest opening animated film of all time in March, and the third biggest start for a March release behind G.I. JOE: RETALIATION (US$2,428,150) and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (US$2,399,271) (The figures include sneaks and are converted into that period's American currency).

Rounding up the top five are former champion ZOOTOPIA (PG), LONDON HAS FALLEN (NC16), GODS OF EGYPT (PG13) and ZOOLANDER 2 (NC16) in descending order.

Newcomers include THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY (R21 Edited), HAIL, CAESAR! (PG), THE KID FROM THE BIG APPLE 我来之纽约 (PG) and JERUZALEM (M18).
