SINGAPORE - Disney's FROZEN moves up one slot to claim the box office crown. It's only the third film this year to ascend to no. 1. It grossed US$609,005 for a total of US$1,714,125 to date. A finish in the range of US$2-US$2.4m is likely.
After two weekends at the top, THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE dips down to the runner-up spot. It picks up another US$473,117 for a US$4,299,213 cume. That's already more than what the first chapter of THE HUNGER GAMES grossed last year (US$3,729,893). CATCHING FIRE is only the 8th film to cross US$4m this year and is currently the 7th highest grossing film of 2013. Look for it to pick up anything between US$4.5-US$5m when it reaches the finishing line.
EVERYBODY'S BUSINESS 人人有份 is one of two domestic releases debuting this week. The Jack Neo executive produced and Lee Thean-Jeen's third theatrical release has the week's highest screen average performance with US$12,441. The 19-print release has grossed US$272,000 to date (including sneaks). Expect a finish in the range of US$500K.
Benny Chan's new action flick THE WHITE STORM 扫毒 starts with US$195,627 from 22 screens. Other releases include the Jason Stratham action thriller HOMEFRONT (US$109,526) which is written by Sylvester Stallone; dance extravaganza BATTLE OF THE YEAR (US$69,690 including one 3D screen); sci-fi thriller THE LAST DAYS ON MARS (US$31,686), Thao horror comedy POSSESSED (US$25,431); Korean swimming drama NO BREATHING (US$22,655), Japanese drama MIDSUMMER'S EQUATION (2 screens, figures unavailable) and the edited PG13 version of the Singapore documentary on the search for the first patient cured of HIV, I HUGGED THE BERLIN PATIENT (single screen, figures unavailable).
Overall, the top ten films grossed US$1,996,641, which is a 18% decline from last weekend and a 11.52% dip from the same frame a year ago when LIFE OF PI spent its second weekend at no. 1
