POLICE STORY 2013 commands final #1 spot of the year!

SINGAPORE - Jackie Chan commands the final weekend of the year with his latest blockbuster POLICE STORY 2013 新警察故事 2013, which grossed US$636,149 over the weekend from 35 screens. The film opened on Christmas eve, which falls on a Tuesday. Its total gross stands at US$1,131,308 to date.

About a year ago, Jackie Chan steered CHINESE ZODIAC 十二生肖 into the box office with US$1,107,550 from 44 screens. That action blockbuster went on to become the top grossing non-domestic Asian film of all time with a final haul of US$4,093,933.

Last week's top film 47 RONIN settles down into the runner-up spot with another US$438,177 boosting its total cume to US$1,981,936.

Also debuting is THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, which is directed by and stars Ben Stiller. The film opened on 35 screens on Christmas and has grossed US$564,037 to date.

Other debuts include David O. Russell's Oscar hopeful AMERICAN HUSTLE (US$173,520 from 19 screens); the animated flick THE HOUSE OF MAGIC (US$46,506 final gross from 5 screens); the edited M18 version of the sex addiction comedy drama THANKS FOR SHARING (US$13,587 from 5 screens) and three single print releases: Hideo Nakata (RINGU)'s latest horror THE COMPLEX (US$9,472); French drama HAUTE CUISINE (US$2,286 gross) and the French sex comedy DO NOT DISTURB (US$2,497 final gross).

Overall, the top ten films from the final weekend of 2013 grossed US$2,397,494 - a 4% dip from the last weekend and a 13.33% drop from the final frame of 2012 when CHINESE ZODIAC ruled the top spot for a second weekend.
